1 DAY GAME DRIVE in Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is the only place on the Northern Safari Circuit where the acrobatic black & white Colobus monkey is easily seen. In the midst of the forest stands the spectacular Ngurudoto Crater, whose steep, rocky cliffs enclose a wide marshy floor dotted with herds of buffalo and warthog.
Further north, rolling hills enclose the tranquil beauty of Momela Lakes, each one with a different hue of green or blue. Their shallows sometimes tinged pink with thousands of flamingos, the lakes support a rich selection of resident and migrant water fowl, and shaggy waterbucks display their large lyre-shaped horns on the shoreline.
Giraffe glide across the grassy hills between grazing zebra while pairs of wide-eyed Dik-Dik dart into scrubby bush. Although elephant are uncommon and lions absent altogether, leopard and spotted Hyenas may be seen slinking around in the early morning or late afternoon. The dusk or dawn veil of cloud clears to reveal the majestic snow-capped peak aof Kilimanjaro 80km away. It's cousin, Mt Meru, the fift highest mountain in Africa at 4,566 metres (14,990ft) above sea level that dominates the park's horizon. CANOEING on Lake Momela, Arusha National Park
There's more to coffee than meets the eye, especially when you have to meander through narrow mountain paths surrounded by banana plantations on the side of Mt Kilimanjaro to find it. Take time to meet some of the locals and visit an orphanage along the way, then top it all off with a sumptuous buffet lunch of local cuisine as you rest in the tropical garden. A guaranteed delight!

Inside Arusha National Park, where the flamingos play, lies the Momela Lakes; Big Momela and Small Momela.
