MAASAI CULTURE TOURS by SafarEase

Immerse yourself in the authentic culture of ancient tribes....
EXPERIENCE A DAY IN THE LIFE
OF A MAASAI WOMAN
- Imagine having to face cooking breakfast in a goat shed with only 3 stones, some kuni (sticks) and a pot of water every morning!  Waking at sunrise you let the goats out and head off to the nearest water supply, kilometres away, with your buckets strapped to a donkey's back, in order to collect the days water rations.  When you return you start the fire with the kuni, boil the water for chai and if you are lucky enough to have wheat flour, you cook chapatis for your hungry family on the old black frypan.  At around 7am you send your young boys as young as five years old, off to herd the family's goats, donkeys and cattle to find grass to eat.  Your day has just begun!

Our tours reveal the true MAASAI CULTURE, and uncover a lifestyle so few people ever get the chance to see let alone experience! The uniquely colourful Maasai culture is steeped in traditions that reach far back into the remembrance of the land on which they live.  Nomadic tribal cattle herders, they have been forced in many places, including this one near Monduli, to put down more permanent roots and learn to become cultivators; farming rented government land to grow enough food annually to provide for their ever growing families.

In spite of the 21st century developing around them, the Maasai hold fast and true to their traditions, refusing to upgrade their rustic mud & thatched roof huts to more modern abodes.  They do not ravish the land like many others do, but live in harmony with it, moving their herds and families from place to place to find the greener pastures throughout the day.

Women are strong, wise and incredibly beautiful, stark contrasts to the harsh environment in which they strive to live.  The men are regal and proud, determined to provide for their families no matter what it takes, or how far they have to go to find work.  The children are carefree and happy, in spite of the hard physical labour that they are often required to do.

Whether you choose to experience a Day in the Life of a Maasai Woman or be a part of our Maasai Medical Camps, we guarantee you will take a memory with you to treasure for life!
